Design Framework for Building Services 4th Edition (BG 6/2014)
This publication has now been superceded by: Design Framework for Building Services 5th Edition (BG 6/2018).
BSRIA (Building Services Research and Information Association) is a non-profit distributing, member-based association, that describes its mission as ‘to make buildings better...’ by enabling ‘…the building services and construction industries and their clients to enhance the value of the built environment, by improving the quality of their products and services, the efficiency of their provision and the effectiveness of their operation.’
BSRIA’s Design Framework for Building Services, design activities and drawing model definitions, 4th Edition (BG 6/2014) is the industry standard framework used by building services consultants and contractors to define the extent of their design activity and design deliverables on a project. It was written by David Churcher and John Sands and published in February 2014. It replaced the third edition, BG 6/2012 published in 2012.
The fourth edition has been amended so that it is aligned with the RIBA Plan of Work (2013 edition), and to take on board changes in the industry resulting from the emergence of building information modelling (BIM), in particular, the production of models at different stages of the design process, and information exchanges (data drops) with the client.
It includes design activity pro-formas intended to encourage discussion with the client about who will be providing particular design services, and along with drawing and model definitions, encourages collaborative working and supports contract documentation.
Its contents include:
- Introduction.
- Using the technical guide.
- Introduction to BIM.
- Appendix A: Allocating design responsibility.
- Appendix B: Allocating model and drawing production.
- Appendix c: Cross reference of terminology.
- References and bibliography.
Licensed versions of BG 6/2014 include:
- An unlocked PDF.
- An editable Word version.
- An Excel workbook of the pro-formas.
- An unlocked pdf of the third edition (BG 6/2012).
- An Excel workbook of all the pro-formas from the third edition
This publication has now been superceded by: Design Framework for Building Services 5th Edition (BG 6/2018).
